DEADVVOOD
‘Earlier last year I started messing around with abstraction a lot more, but now have the more narrative focus on my mind. I started a collection of large 'wall-art' paintings on MDF boards tied to the concept of my father's decay and my 'family-tree's'dead branches. I've called the pieces simply 'Sticks' or 'Branches' but was more officially calling the series 'Dead Wood', stolen but not related at all to the HBO series ;) … I've always loved trees and their interesting bark textures so it's been fun on a surface level to paint, but to me trees feel ancient and wise. In a sense they feel as though they are on a different time-scale than humans as they live much longer. However, like a human body which no longer holds life, a dead tree is a very bizarre memory of it's once flourishing self.’
